The original concept of this album was conceived in October 2019 during my most recent of many sojourns to New Mexico I have made throughout my life and specifically back to one of the most intensely spiritual, remote and quietest places on Earth with a vast night sky unpolluted by light, Chaco Canyon. This area has a very special meaning for me, not only being a remarkably desolate, unknown and untravelled area, but also it’s secretiveness and very ancient fabric has always held a gravitational pull on my being, one that mysteriously draws me back again. It wasn’t until the Autumn of 2020, when I had planned to return once more for the Autumn Solstice but unfortunately could not due to the pandemic, that I felt that that might have been my last time there.

I tried at various times to put my thoughts to hard drive without much success to try and write some music that would possibly capture the vastness, stillness, wonder and mystery as well as the very real feeling that one is surrounded by spirits of many Æons, spirits that guide you on through the vastness but are always there to remind you of the sacredness of the place. The sound of miles of deserted gravel roads beneath your wheels, the sound of a sudden wind, sometimes carrying an undecipherable whisper.

The ancient Chacoans were expert astronomers (or more correctly, archeoastronomers) but only left answers to those with eyes that are open. I have always encountered these channels and open doors to the spirit world on the many sojourns I have made throughout the incredibly desolate areas of the Southwest US in the last 30 years and now regard them as commonplace, once unnerving but now welcome, a gift given to me and one that is unfortunately not grasped by those who feel that there is nothing past this life. Something that has made me grow as a person in many ways and more importantly, a mortal, knowing full well as I firmly believe, after having been shown the other side several times, this life is not an end.

Hopefully these 38 short minutes of music can relay a sense of serenity and wonder and inspiration to those who’ll never be able to know of such a place and most importantly, a thank you to the spirits that guide one through life. A thank you to them for sharing their secret world.
